Elements of classic literature ignite this novel, heavily re-interpreting Jane Eyre into a science fiction mystery. The cadence of narration is peaceful and the story of the Fairy Wars and the years after vivid. While wonderful to a point, Ironskin veers sharply towards the end in a direction unknown and drastic in appearance leaving readers shocked as if plunged into freezing waters. Ironskin is one of those books that surprises you. Whether that is a good or bad will depend on each individual reader.
